Incarcerated People and People Released from Incarceration

I coordinated the project “Implementing International Standards to Protect Children Deprived of Liberty from Torture and Ill-treatment in Benin”, funded by the World Organization Against Torture. I monitored the detention centers where children and young people stay to ensure their living conditions and detention and respect for their human rights; I ensured the organization of exchange and training workshops dedicated to the various actors in the chain of protection (magistrates, penitentiary agents, prison health personnel) and promotion of the rights of children and young people; and I advocated against the judicial and legislative authorities with a view to taking into account the best interests of children and young people in all decisions concerning them. As key achievements we had Over 50 advocacy missions on human rights (Benin and Ivory Coast) and 3 alternative reports on UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child and the Universal Periodic Review presented to the United Nations Human Rights Council. I organized follow-up visit of the recommendations of the Sub-Committee for Prevention against Torture with the Minister of the Justice, the Mediator of the Republic and workshops on HR standards and community reintegration with the Magistrates and other actors. I organized in 2017 the workshop on community reintegration of children in conflict with the law in Benin.

With the International Catholic Office for Childhood (BICE), I organized in Benin the Regional Meeting on Children in Conflict with the Law in Francophone Africa on the theme: “Mediation for restorative justice and reintegration of children in conflict with the law” which brought together six (06) country with the support of the International Organization of Francophonie. I also organized in the regional meeting of the program “Childhood Without Bars 2” in Abidjan on the theme “Strengthening advocacy for restorative juvenile justice in Francophone Africa” in order to share experiences of achievements in Africa.
