I worked on the “Migration and Development in Support of Civil Society Organizations in Benin” program funded by the Department of Development and Cooperation – SDC Switzerland. This program “ProMiD Benin DDC ESAM” implemented in Benin was a unique experience in the West African sub-region. Over two hundred state and non-state actors at the national level have been mobilized around the Migration and Development theme.
This Program has helped to inform, train and exchange with civil society organizations in Benin, West Africa, the media, elected municipal officials, international organizations, the diaspora on the theme Migration and Development. This Program is the result of the eleven recommendations from the first Forum of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) on Migration and Development, organized by the NGO ESAM in Benin on November 11, 2014.
Two other national forums of CSOs were organized in 2015 and in 2016 as part of this program. The program directly affected 85 people (including mayors, prefects, executives of the ministries of planning and development, decentralization and other local elected representatives) to advocate for the inclusion of the theme Migration and Development in the plans of Communal development.
Ultimately, 30 CSOs and 20 media were trained on the Migration and Development theme and 12 departmental focal points were installed.
